COVID-19

March 16, 2020

Prayer, Coronavirus, & What Comes Next…
As this uncertain season of the coronavirus pandemic stretches on, Jesus' words on the eve of his arrest and execution give me courage. "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I give to you not as the world gives. Don't be troubled or afraid." (John 14:27)

Pray for peace, friends:
Eye-of-the-storm, courageous peace for first responders, medical professionals, testing and treating people for COVID-19. Comforting and loving peace for those infected by this new virus. Deep-breathing and book-reading peace for all who are quarantining themselves and for students who can't go to school.

An update for where we are:
Session voted, on Sunday afternoon, that all regular services 8:00am and 9:00am are cancelled in their current form for the next three weeks, knowing that we will continue to revisit the subject as things change. We WILL continue service, but it will take place at 10:00am and look very different. We will keep you posted as resources are found and information becomes available. As always, you can stream our service online by visiting our website at secondpres.com or using the church app.  The session also voted that no outside group with more than 10 members can meet in the church beginning March 15th and lasting until April 5th, knowing that we will continue to revisit the subject as things change. We are also requesting that all inside groups with more than 10 members stop meeting, as well. If you have any building needs, please reach out to Tammy Haggard, tammy.haggard@secondpres.com.
Pastor Elissa is setting up a devotion for our church to help provide support and hope in this time of unknowing. Please keep an eye out for more information going forward. Also, Melissa, our Children’s Director, will be putting together information and programs for families with little ones to do from home.

Please note the following events have been cancelled:
  • All Church Talent Show, scheduled for March 18th
  • Oak Grove Concert Choir, scheduled March 25th
  • Campus Cleaning Week, scheduled March 23th-27th
  • Bunny Brunch, scheduled April 4th

As this situation develops, and assistance is needed, please do not hesitate to call the church office at (309) 828-6297. We will have someone answering phone calls during our normal business hours of 8:00am – 4:30pm. We remain committed to the ministry of the church and to all in need throughout this time.  In the meantime, keep praying. Take care of yourselves. Connect with loved ones over phone instead of in person. Share with each other opportunities to provide assistance to those who need help. Have courage: Jesus has given us his peace and we are called to live as people of faith!

Grace and peace,
Rev. Trey Haddon
